Liberty London’s beauty advent calendar went on general sale last month, retailing at £285 and packed with more than £1,300 worth of product. If you’re interested in beauty you’ll know that it sells out every year, and Liberty calls it the fastest-selling product in its 150-year history. Plenty of other retailers are cashing in on the advent calendar opportunity too. According to Circana, UK prestige beauty advent calendar sales topped £13.9m in a single week at the end of August 2025, more than double the same week a year earlier.

Shoppers get 24 days of treats. The brands behind each door get one of the biggest visibility moments of the year, to be in front of engaged beauty buyers, unboxing creators and the journalists who write the annual roundups.

In this blog, we’re reviewing the beauty advent calendars that 2026 has brought us so far and we also look at how brands can turn a spot in the line-up into lasting value, specifically digital PR and backlinks.

The 2026 beauty advent calendar line-up at a glance

There are around 100 beauty advent calendars on sale in the UK this year, according to Mamabella’s 2026 tracker. We’ve picked five that sum up the season.

Prices and values are the retailers’ own figures and accurate at the time of writing.

Under the glossy packaging, we’re noticing some shifts standing out this year:

Full-size is the new flex

Shoppers want to know how many products are full size rather than samples, and retailers are putting that number front and centre. Selfridges has nine more full-size products in its 2026 calendar than it had in 2025.

K-beauty has its own calendars now

Lookfantastic, PureSeoul, Notino and Yepoda all sell K-beauty calendars, and Boots has put Anua and Mediheal in its skincare edition.

Fragrance is going solo

Selfridges has launched a dedicated fragrance calendar for £225, and Boots has added a 12 Days of Scent calendar for £90. The fragrance editions from Harrods, John Lewis and Lookfantastic have already sold out!

The season keeps arriving earlier

Most flagship waitlists and pre-orders opened before the end of August, and general sale followed in the first week of September. June Jenson, VP and Head of UK Beauty at Circana, says rising demand has pushed the buying season earlier.

Exclusivity is another flex

There seems to be a backlash/fatigue undercurrent this year where shoppers are calling out the same filler products (Augustinus Bader turned up in four different 2025 calendars)! Space NK is rebutting this by making exclusivity their selling point this year, with 31 of its 35 products only available in their calendar.

Gamification has crept in

Mystery vouchers – “golden ticket” style prizes worth up to £1,000 hidden inside calendars.

Each of these changes affects what it takes for a brand to win a place behind a door, and what that place is worth once it’s won.

Turning a calendar into a digital PR campaign

Getting a product behind a door is only half the job. The brands that get the most out of beauty advent calendar season run it as a digital pr campaign, with a plan for the press coverage, the links and the conversation that follows.

Ride the roundup season

Calendar coverage arrives in waves. Waitlist and first-look stories land in August, the “best beauty advent calendars” roundups go live with general sale in early September, and the same articles are refreshed for Black Friday. The late wave matters as much as the launch.

Editors cover dozens of calendars each season and British Vogue reviewed 44 in 2024, so give them a reason to feature your product. Send high-resolution imagery, a short expert quote and samples ahead of the launch date. If your product is exclusive to a calendar, lead with that, the likes of Space NK will love that appeal.

Chase the unlinked mentions

Roundup articles usually link to the retailer through affiliate links, while the brands inside get named in plain text. Every one of those is an unlinked brand mention on a high-authority beauty title.

This is something you can act on. As part of our PR support, we set up alerts in Google Alerts, Ahrefs or Semrush’s Brand Monitoring tool so you catch mentions as they go live. Emailing the writer with a friendly, specific ask: linking your brand name to the product page. It also helps to offer something useful in return, such as a better image or a detail they missed.

Not every editor will say yes, but a few editorial links from titles like Grazia or Woman & Home carry real weight for your site’s authority. Even the mentions that stay unlinked help shape how AI search tools understand your skincare brand.

Make your own calendar the story

Brands with a deep enough range can skip the retailer altogether. Charlotte Tilbury, Elemis and Dermalogica all have their own calendars this year, and every roundup that features them links straight back to the brand’s site.

To help your brand standout during this saturated period, your calendar needs a story beyond what’s inside. Liberty is the master of this. This year it has hidden 20 golden tickets worth £1,000, they cast Helena Bonham Carter in its campaign, and opened a call for UK artists to design its 2027 edition. That’s three separate press hooks from just one product, smart!

However, Chanel shows how this can go wrong. Though its first advent calendar launched in the US in 2021 at $825, and viral TikTok unboxings mocked doors holding stickers and a dust bag. Launchmetrics still ranked it among the year’s most talked-about calendars, but no brand wants that kind of coverage. Curate the contents as carefully as you plan the campaign.

Don’t let January undo December

All that calendar exposure creates demand, and much of it shows up as people searching for your brand by name. Keep track of your branded queries in Google Search Console from December onwards, and make sure they land somewhere useful.

That place should be a dedicated landing page for the product featured in the calendar. Give it clear “as seen in” messaging, with reviews and the full-size versions being one click from the basket.

Then bring back the visitors who don’t buy first time by building a retargeting audience from that landing page in Meta Ads and Google Ads, and pair it with a January offer to reach shoppers as their calendar minis run out.

Your door for 2027 is already open

This year’s beauty advent calendars show how much attention one door can bring. Turning that attention into something lasting takes planning, and the brands that do it best start early. Liberty has already opened its call for artists to design the 2027 calendar, which shows how far ahead the biggest retailers work.

Use the quieter months to build your press relationships, prep your imagery, and set up your brand monitoring. When the first roundups land next August, every mention can then work harder for your brand.
